General FAQ
The PAI is funded by its members, through their annual membership subscriptions. We have recently brought in a donations system, where donations can be made into the association, and are also looking at selling merchandise to raise funds, the proceeds of which will all be used to increase the number and type of grants we can give to members. The PAI is a not-for-profit organisation.
The Board of the PAI is made up of members of the Association who are elected at the AGM. The Board consists of at least 6 and no more than 10 directors. If a member of the Association wishes to be considered for a place on the Board, they must be a holder of a “B” licence and have been a member for at least 3 years consecutively prior to their application. They must be proposed by another PAI member and send an email to the Secretary 3 weeks prior to the AGM. The Members inclusion on the Board will be voted upon at the AGM by all members present.
The Board members of the PAI are all volunteers and receive no payment whatsoever for being on the Board. The PAI is run by Skydivers for the benefit of its Skydiver Members, and all funds received go towards this goal. Costs of Admin (stationary, stamps membership cards etc) and any other admin running costs are paid for from Association funds.
To be eligible for a grant, the member applicant must have been a PAI member for the past 3 consecutive years prior to the seeking of the grant. The Board looks upon every grant application with great scrutiny before releasing members funds.
The exceptions to the 3 year Membership Rule are 6 Jump Course subsidisation, and Canopy Skills Courses – both of these courses are subsidised by PAI irrespective of how long Membership has been held.
While abuses of our grant system are rare, please bear in mind that where abuses do occur, the individual(s) concerned have not “beat the system” – they have stolen your money!
Membership FAQ
Membership of the PAI runs from January to December (no matter what time of the year the Membership is paid. A grace period of 1 month (January) is allowed before Membership/Licence/Ratings are considered lapsed and thereby expired if not fully paid up at that point.
PAI Membership does NOT include insurance for the Member. However, PAI has negotiated a small discount with AXA Austria for Members that have their own equipment (because a parachute number will be asked for on the insurance application).
Yes! For Sports Skydiver Members, early renewal of Membership gets a discount over Standard Membership Fees. Ratings holders also get a discount on licence and ratings fees – note that ratings holders must renew both licence and ratings by the end of November anyway to allow processing of ratings currency.
Yes! The PAI is affiliated to the FAI (International Skydiving Commission) and this makes a PAI licence valid Worldwide, because our basic licencing requirements are the same as the FAI’s – though the PAI have expanded on some the requirements and added others that were deemed as important skills for Licence Progression.
