Standards For Ram-Air Parachutist Licence And Display Ratings
‘S’ LICENCE: ‘Student Parachutist’
- A student Licence is issued by the Membership Officer of the PAI to a person starting off skydiving training.
- It serves as proof of Membership and allows the Student to progress forward to their ‘A’ Licence.
- During this period, the student should learn how to pack a Main Parachute and be tested on packing by an instructor and have ability to pack a main Parachute entered into their log book.
‘A’ LICENCE: ‘Parachutist’
- 25 freefall jumps
- 5 minutes of freefall time.
- 5 formation skydives involving at least two participants OR 5 freefly jumps under the supervision of an instructor.
- Demonstrate control of the body in all axes (backloops, turns, barrel rolls etc)
- Be tested and signed off to pack a main parachute.
- Demonstrate ability to land a parachute within 50 meters of a target, on at least 10 jumps.
- Have successfully completed the “6 Jump Course”.
‘B’ LICENCE: ‘Freefall Parachutist’
- Hold a current PAI A Licence.
- 50 freefall jumps.
- 30 minutes of freefall time.
- Successful completion of ten formation skydives, OR ten formation freefly jumps, at least five of which, in either discipline, must involve at least 3 participants.
- Have undergone instruction (and practical training on live jumps) on 3 separate loads from a PAI Instructor on spotting (why and how it is done before exiting an aircraft) and correctly point out the correct spot to the instructor. Each of these 3 instances must be signed up in the persons log book.
- Be able to calculate the correct “spot” by calculating it from information given by an instructor – wind speeds and wind directions at different altitudes.
‘C’ LICENCE: ‘Experienced Parachutist’
- Hold a current PAI B Licence.
- 200 freefall jumps.
- 1 hour of freefall time.
- Successful completion of fifty formation skydives, OR fifty formation freefly jumps, at least ten of which, in either discipline, must involve at least 4 participants.
- Have successfully completed (under instructor supervision) the function of Loadmaster on 3 separate loads. Each of these 3 instances must be signed up in the persons log book.
‘D’ LICENCE: ‘Senior Parachutist’
- Hold a current PAI C Licence
- 500 freefall jumps.
- At least 3 hours of freefall time.
‘E’ LICENCE: ‘Master Parachutist’ (“E” licences are no longer issued, but current holders may renew them)
- Hold a current PAI D Licence.
- Have made 1000 jumps AND have 10 hours freefall time.
- Have successfully jumpmastered a Display Jump.
- Have performed 30 critiqued landings to within 10 meters of a target, on all of which the exit point was self-spotted.
- Have performed any 5 of the following:-
a) A disc landing in accuracy
b) A style series within 15 seconds
c) An intentional water jump
d) An intentional night jump
e) Have closed 6th or higher in Formation Skydiving
f) Have successfully carried out three four-way manoeuvres, as planned, in sequential formation skydiving or formation freefly jumps.
g) Have successfully closed 3rd or higher in Canopy Formation.
h) Have successfully transitioned from head down to a sit flying position, safely and controllably, such a manoeuvre to be done 3 times during the one skydive and signed off by an instructor.
i) Hold a Tandem Master Rating.
j) Hold an Instructors Rating
DISPLAY RATING QUALIFICATIONS
- Hold a current C Licence
- Have completed 10 critiqued accuracy landings to within 8 metres of a target. Two of these descents should involve approaches over an obstacle, and all landings must be stand-ups. All of the qualification jumps must be logged and signed off by an Instructor.
NOTE: A Display Loadmaster must hold a D Licence.
